This year, the competition for young food inventors included the REINWASTE special award.
The XI edition of EcoTrophelia Italy took place in Rome at Eataly Congress Center last June 17th, 2019. The competition was launched by Federalimentare with the aim of limiting environmental footprint of production processes, fostering the recycling of industrial by-products. Through the years, EcoTrophelia has become an important event for students, willing to propose new ideas and original solutions for the agri-food industry.
As usual, EcoTrophelia Italy benefited from the partnership of MIUR (Italian Minister of Education, University and Research) and the scientific sponsorship of ENEA (Italian National Agency for new Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development). Moreover, it also gained the sponsorship from Fondazione FEI (Food Education Italy) and SISTAL (Italian Society of Science and Food Technologists).
For the XI Edition of the competition, the EU Project REINWASTE - Remanufacture the food supply chain by testing INnovative solutions for zero inorganic WASTE - granted a Special Award for the team presenting the best sustainable and cost-effective technique to reduce inorganic waste as packaging or similar materials. It was assigned to 3 SECONDS TO, the team from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Piacenza, with their homonymous product: a muesli made of a mix of ingredients with green banana flour, puffed quinoa and amaranth. The eco-innovation consists both in the development of the package and on the developed recipe. The pack is 100% recyclable since it is made of multilayer plastic but single material (PE) film. It includes a pouch and a dosing cap. The design also provides with a lateral graduated band, which allows pouring the right portion.
CIOCO CARE (Fondazione ITS Tech&Food di Parma) won the first place, with their SPIGO BITE and got the ticket for the International Final at ECOTROPHELIA EUROPE 2019, which is going to take place at Anuga Exhibition (Cologne, 6-7 Oct. 2019).
In second place, the BALANCED TEAM (Università degli Studi di Milano) with SHOOTILS, while the third place went to the GREMLIN TEAM (Università degli Studi di Perugia) with COMEDUS.
